This video really doesn’t need commentary…

Austin City Limits No comments yet

Two weekends ago Austin was once again the scene of loud music (some of it better than the rest) as the annual Austin City Limits Music festival set up shop in Zilker Park down by the lake. It’s one of the biggest festivals in the country and tickets have been sold out for months, but luckily it’s been in our calender for a looong time so we were ready for the 3-day festivities.

To be honest, my current bulbous shape limits my patience for anything that involves long periods of standing/ crowding/ discomfort and an extreme aversion to portable toilets, so I popped in now and again with Adam to catch some shows while Werner made sure to get our money’s worth with more of the noisy stuff. (This being Austin, kids get in free).

Also, this being Austin, the cyclists got priority parking.

But of course, like a festival hooligan, Werner preferred to park his bike in a tree (the beautiful red one, second from right).

Around here, there had been much talk about the $2 million the organisers pumped into resurfacing most of the park, and I must say, the new lawn is beautiful. It made for a very pleasant Friday afternoon, chilling on the grass, listening to some laid back grooves…

There were 8 stages, and people move around alot to catch all the acts they want to see. Those who are determined to get their money’s worth come with camp chairs to help them through the long day. (Above is a view of one of the main stages).

Of course, after a perfect Friday, unseasonal torrential rain had descended on the city, and by Sunday the beautiful lawn had become a mud pit.

What the picture doesn’t show is that the trampling brought up deep layers of stinky fertilizer – and there was a distinctly bovine funk in the air. It bothered some of us more than others…
