Lots of Boxes No comments yet

Everyone knows that a box is a kid’s best plaything, and the bigger it is, the better. We’ve gotten so much use from our old moving boxes. One of them is splashed with paint and has a window cut in it and is permanently installed upstairs as a puppet theatre and after-bath surprise box (every night after the bath, Adam hides in the box and then leaps out, yelling ‘SURPRISE!!!!’)

And when the kids get bored of painting paper we give them cereal boxes from the recycling pile to paint, and now and again, as a treat, one of the big boxes. And once they have the box, they just drag it around the house and hang out in it.

Which means I finally get some space to stretch out on the couch. Win for everybody.

Before and after No comments yet

So we had our second stab at Adam’s fifth birthday party yesterday. The first attempt, scheduled for last week Saturday, had to be cancelled when Adam came down with a nasty flu bug that’s been doing the rounds in his class.

I have no photos from the event, because I was pouring juice, cutting cake and trying to keep excited boys far, far away from whoever was swinging the piƱata stick.

I have these pics of the cake peering from about 1/2 hour before the party started.

And this snap of the aftermath – after Werner and I had put away the jumping castle and chairs and picked up the paper cups, plates and sweet wrappers (while the boys were parked on the couch in a catatonic post-party state).

It was grand.
