Merry Christmas 2010 1 comment

We had a lovely, cold Christmas day in Austin today.

The Christmas spirit starred stirring yesterday evening when various neighbours and kids got together in the park across the road to make and place luminarias (candles with sand in a paper bag) all around the park. I couldn’t help peeking out the front window every now and again to see the magic lanterns light up the park and bridges.

Today, as you can imagine, there was much excitement about the presents that appeared, magically, under the tree overnight, followed by Christmas lunch, chocolate pudding (which Adam helped to make), and a nap.

Only thing that could have made it better would have been the company of too-faraway family.

One of the things I love about Christmas in the States is getting a real Christmas tree. There’s going down to one of the lots that spring up around town and picking out the perfect tree…

And then getting it home, into the house and all set up. It’s a big expedition that really kick-starts all those Christmassy feelings – plus the house gets a lovely piney scent.

Adam immediately set about decorating the tree, carefully choosing a spot for each decoration and literally jumping up and down and clapping his hands when we were done.

David napped through all the hard work, and woke up to find a magic tree had appeared in his house. This was his reaction…

So I guess we’re all in the spirit!
